New Rocky Radio and Cincinnati Rocky con/Palooza

New show is up and one of my favorites. We also announce the beginning stages of the first ever Cincinnati con/Palooza and I mention we will have forums up and running, and you can get to them by clicking here.

Susan Moves To HBO

Susan Sarandon is teaming up with Ralph Feinnes for a new movie on HBO called "Bernard and Doris".

You can view the trailer here, but it will be a pop up, so make sure you turn off your blockers.

Anyway, Sarandon and Fiennes star in the intimate story about what might have transpired during the twilight years of billionaire heiress Doris Duke, when she befriended her gay butler, Bernard Lafferty, and died leaving him in charge of most of her fortune.

Well, at least the actors playing the parts are far better looking than the real deal.

NEW ROCKY RADIO

We will be recording a new Rocky Radio the the weekend of the 22. We have a lot to discuss and will not hold back anything, so make sure to check back soon for the new show.

VIRGINS WELCOME AT HEBREW HORROR NIGHT

Inspired by this week's Jewish pastime of movies and Chinese food, the Los Angeles "Rocky Horror Picture Show" cast Sins o' the Flesh is hosting an inaugural Jewish-themed send-up of the midnight cult classic at the Landmark Nuart Theatre in West Los Angeles on Saturday, Dec. 22.

Each week, the Sins troupe performs a synchronized below-the-screen recreation of the film with sarcastic social jabs, bawdy sexuality and biting fan in-jokes. And the "Hebrew Horror" will be no different.

The event marks the first time the players have devoted an entire evening to poking fun at the Jewish community, said Sins co-cast leader Bernie Bregman, 28, who plays the title role of Rocky. He added that "Hebrew Horror" is likely the first Jewish theme night for any "Rocky Horror" cast since audience participation began in the late 1970s.

SHOCK AND AWE SOUND OFF

We, that is KevJB and myself, recently reviewed the "Filthy Horror Show" cd.  While we were true to our opinions, we were a bit brutal (would you honestly want it any other way) and we received a response from Shock and Awe's "Teenage Bobby Awe" about our review:

I've just stumbled across this review - its cracking !

My band recieve all the flames, the world famous Shock and Awe, I thought you might be interested to hear how we were selected to play the most famous song from the movie.

We'd done a cover of a Replacements song for a previous filthy little angels compilation that had gone down really well with them. I'd ignored all requests for a rocky horror tribute as I'd never watched the movie, although I'd been subjected to the timewarp on numerous occasions.

They got in touch days before the album was due to come out and asked us again if we'd contribute. Seeing it as a bit of a challenge, I thought we might as well say yes. Our bassist had the album so we could work it out. But how to do it ?

If you're doing a cover version, you're in trouble from the start - if its an unknown song, its easy to impress people, but something as iconic as the timewarp theres no point in trying to cover it straight, otherwise it'll just be "not as good as the original" - pointless. Which is probably the reason why none of the other bands attempted it.

I looked at the words and to my surprise it was really well written - I'd written off rocky horror as that panto crap that people with no lives dress up to go and participate in

Its a joyous song in the soundtrack, so the obvious thing (for me) to do was to do a version that was devoid of joy. Part of the hook was the stop/start bits. We dropped them. Another hook was the big choruses, so I didnt even multitrack my voice. Basically I was trying to create the ANTI-Timewarp. I think the review proves that we were very succesful !

Cheers !
Teenage Bobby Awe
